Lake Olathe Park
DetailsLake Olathe Park features a 170-acre lake surrounded by a 258-acre community park. The Swim Beach features locker rooms, outdoor showers, vending machines and a floating obstacle course – The Aqua Park. Lake Olathe Park visitors can rent canoes, kayaks, paddle boards and pedal boats at the Marina. Coolers with food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome along with beach chairs and umbrellas. Additional renovations to Lake Olathe now offer an upper event lawn surrounded by landscaping and a small stream. The water feature flows into a waterfall before ending in a pond. A creek leading from the pond wraps around the newly built Spray Ground before flowing into the lake. An amphitheater, featuring event seating for 1,500 and Lake Olathe as its backdrop, is a great spot to relax and enjoy nature's elements.
Swope Park
DetailsAt 1,805-acres, Swope Park is the crown jewel of the KC Parks system. As Kansas City’s largest park, and one of the largest municipal parks in the United States, Swope Park is home to many of Kansas City’s finest attractions and annually hosts more than 2 million visitors. Hiking trails wind through woodlands and grassy meadows encompassing soccer fields, golf courses, community gardens, fountains and a treetop adventure park. Within the park is Starlight Theatre, an outdoor amphitheater featuring musicals and concerts, and the Kansas City Zoo with more than 1,000 animals from around the globe. The Lakeside Nature Center, Missouri’s largest native species rehabilitation center, is also located in Swope Park. The park annually hosts the Ethnic Enrichment Festival which takes place the third weekend of August.

Powell Observatory
DetailsBuilt in 1985 by society members, the observatory is located about 25 miles South of Kansas City in Lewis-Young Park, just North of Louisburg, KS. At this location, skies are much darker than in the city. The observatory has one of the largest telescopes open to the public in a five-state area - the Ruisinger Telescope, a Newtonian reflector with a 30" diameter mirror. The telescope is installed in a 20 foot dome, with an equatorial fork mount and computerized control systems.

DetailsPawn & Pint is Kansas City's one and only Board Game Pub! We saw some other cities starting board game cafés and pubs and thought, why not KC? And why not us? So after 272 Kickstarter contributions, we opened our doors on Southwest Boulevard in 2016. One year later we'd already outgrown our space, so we moved on up to a bigger, swankier space on Walnut, right between the Crossroads and the River Market. Now complete with a full bar, a mezzanine level, skyline views of Kansas City stretching majestically out to the horizon – and a full parking lot of free parking! – we're feeling pretty good in our new home. For years, an old storefront had sat vacant on the corner of 6th & Tauromee. Recently, we launched Shop Local KC which is a curated online marketplace with over 300 local, diverse Kansas City artisans, and opened our flagship store at 3630 Main Street on June 25th and our second location in Leawood, Kansas in July 2022. Shop Local KC not only supports hundreds of local artists & makers by giving them an outlet to sell their products, it also has a studio with affordable space for artists, classroom and event space, and is a gathering place for creatives in Kansas City. Kansas City Disc Golf, Inc.
DetailsThe overall purpose for which Kansas City Disc Golf, Inc. (“KCDG”) has been formed is to educate and engage the greater Kansas City metropolitan area in the sport of disc golf. We work in cooperation with the areas Parks and Recreation Departments in maintaining and improving the many public courses in the metro region. Most club activities involve taking care of courses, running leagues and smaller local and regional events, and working with communities to get new courses installed. KCDG helps local parks departments because besides being a great sport, disc golf is an excellent low-cost, healthful, and fun recreation for people of all ages.

DetailsYoga in the Park is a FREE weekly community yoga class, held every Sunday, Spring through Fall, on the south-side lawn of the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. 🏸🧘🏽 Class will migrate from time-to-time based on the season/weather (the sandstone courtyard near the Bloch building, the gingko tree-lined terraces by the mini golf course, the tiered lawn below The Thinker statue, or the sloped lawn near the Shuttlecock), so keep your eyes open for yoga mats. Shawnee Mission Park

The newly-refurbished eastern park entrance features John Barkley Plaza, honoring JCPRD's first superintendent. Riverfront Heritage Trail
DetailsWest along West Pennway across West Pennway to Jarboe Street continuing along east side of Jarboe Park over I-670 then along east side of Mulkey Square through Ermine Case, Jr. Park and West Terrace Park. The Riverfront Heritage Trail is a fully accessible 15-mile bicycle and pedestrian pathway that begins at the riverfront and winds through the oldest and most historic parts of bi-state Kansas City. It is the first of its kind in Downtown Kansas City. It links communities, parks, and exciting destinations with unique new venues and dramatic public artworks. Historical markers along the Trail will create a journey through the early history of this region. As such, the Trail will enhance bi-state Kansas City’s historic, cultural and recreational treasures. The Trail helps our community gain access to our spectacular rivers, improve the community’s quality of life and stimulate economic development.

Build Trybe
DetailsBuild Trybe provides experiential learning opportunities through learning farms, fabrication shops, and teaching kitchens. Spaces that we gratefully steward running classes, workshops, community events, mentorship programs, and more. Build Trybe trains youth aged 13 and over in advanced trades programming. We create real-world experiences and run businesses with our youth preparing them for employment opportunities in the community. Apprentices in the Build Trybe program are paid and engaged in financial literacy and budgeting classes to save for first cars, first apartments, and trade tools. As the youth show aptitude and job readiness, Build Trybe then partners these young adults with skilled tradespeople, advanced training programs, and employers. Build Trybe provides youth, mentors, and employers wrap-around supports at job sites to ensure continued success for youth in the workplace. We work hard to create experiences in skilled trades and make positive connections in the community that will support their successful transition to adulthood after emancipation and graduation. Build Trybe focuses on youth facing a variety of challenges. Many of our youth are aging out of foster care, homeless, or lacking key support. We engage their incredible resiliency and their desire to create a positive life for themselves and those around them. Our role is one of empowerment and guidance setting them up as best we can for future stability, community connection, and success.

KC Curling Club
DetailsThe Kansas City Curling Club is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 Not-for-Profit Organization. Our club coordinates curling activities for people of all ages by offering instruction, training, practice and league play by providing equipment and ice rentals. This foundation gives our curlers the means to become competitive athletes on the regional, national and international stage. Locally, our club hosts multiple bonspiels (curling tournaments) much like most curling clubs do when we travel to them. Our BBQ Bonspiel has sold out on numerous occasions attracting curlers from all corners of the United States (i.e. Seattle, New York, Texas), as well as several Canadian teams from Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. After 25 years of curling on hockey rinks in both Kansas and Missouri, our club is now the only dedicated facility within 350 miles. KC Curling starts a new chapter in its evolution as a dedicated facility strictly for curling. With more ice time for leagues, practice and rentals, and better ice conditions for curling more programming can now be offered to those parties that are interested. We may one day have an Olympic curler who trained within our walls. Our current fundraising effort are set to help us as we transition from a club of 100 to 500. We would greatly appreciate any participation and/or financial support to curling in Kansas City you can provide. All donations are tax deductible. Most importantly, we want you to give this sport a try. We hope to see you on the ice!

If you answered yes, we hope that you can join us on an urban hike! We offer guided urban hikes/walking tours in downtown Kansas City, MO and Kansas City, KS. We keep a moderate pace in order to keep that heart rate up. Our hikes are 4-5 miles long and include many hills. We explore diverse communities in downtown Kansas City MO or Kansas City, KS, learn about the history, see lots of street art, connect with others and get exercise! This hike is full of Instagramable spots, history and hidden Kansas City gems. You can join a public hiking tour alone or with your family and friends. We also have offer private hikes for families, groups and teambuilding in the workplace. This won’t be a leisurely stroll in flip flops - you’ll need good walking or running shoes and your water bottle!
